Up-cycling

Together with our partners at West Lea School, we run an exciting project to provide pathways to employment for young people with additional needs.

Our up-cycling project is housed in a workshop where charity employees support students to up-cycle items for sale in our charity shops and on eBay.

Specialising in upcycled shabby chic furniture and smaller items such as frames and mirrors, we’re creating popular and unique one off pieces that don’t stay around for long.

Student volunteers taking part in the project gain key skills, which help them with future employment prospects. Longer-term, we hope to grow the scheme so it can offer paid employment too.

At present, young people with learning difficulties, who can and should be working, often don’t get the chance to work. Less than 6% of young people with SEND are typically in employment. We’re committed to challenging the status quo.
