Many young people who are disabled or who have learning difficulties do not feel part of their local community & report that they find it difficult to secure employment, or work experience placements and make friends, especially outside of school which ultimately affects the development of social and communication skills. They also report feeling isolated in that others see them as ‘different’ which makes them more afraid to be part of the wider community and forge links outside of school. The older pupils in particular have specifically requested more opportunities to access work placements and to socialise with other children outside of their own school as Special schools are generally very small with around 100 pupils on roll, so they want the chance to develop wider social networks. They also report feeling very frustrated at having to spend a lot of their free time in the company of adults at home or chaperoned by parents when out. Your donation will support with providing pathways to employment, social functions via the ‘Wanna be Friends’ events and work placement opportunities.
Help us to get the most from your unwanted goods. We are always happy to accept your donations which can be dropped off at any of our shops during opening hours. We also have a collection point located at West Lea School.
We value everything you donate and by recycling we can turn even unsellable items into money. Every item helps fund our work in the local community. We will happily accept the following:
