Baking & Barista brings together members of the local community in a place where they can meet new people and enjoy coffee and baked goods from the LFLC coffee cart.
Held twice weekly at St Aldhelm’s Church in Edmonton, young people – who are disadvantaged by special needs, disability, poverty, long-term unemployment, and social and educational exclusion – prepare and serve in our pop-up café.
Originally hosted at West Lea School, the project expanded to St Aldhelm’s to provide a community based service that prevents social isolation.
Student participants develop employability skills, supported by a trained professional in a structured programme with resources and workbooks, leading to increased confidence and self-esteem.
The project gives young people who have expressed an interest in working in hospitality to gain valuable work experience. During their time with us, they have the opportunity to apply what they’ve learned in a real life setting.
Their skills include: baking, barista, food hygiene, money management and customer service.
